Spring Fever Art Reception - Winter Garden City Hall

You are all invited to the following reception for the Art Show which will be on exhibit from June 11th to August 31st.

The City of Winter Garden in collaboration with the Bloom & Grow Garden Society presents: Art in Public Places - Spring Fever - En Plein Air with paintings by local artists. Opening Reception Friday, June 11th, 5:30 to 7:00 pm in the City Hall Lobby.

I participated in the "Watch Art Happen" event back in April along with about 10 other artists, including a couple from the SLAL. We set up our easels on main street in Winter Garden and painted during the Spring Fever festival. The artists were asked to participate by exhibiting 2 paintings, one of which they had painted during the Plein Air event. South Lake Art League was represented by Don Herold, Brenna Mazzoni, and Kathie Camara.

If you are looking for something to do this Friday night, come on down and enjoy the reception and view the art. It's free! I'll be there.

Birthday Freebies

I was surfing the net and found a great site I'd like to share with you. www.FreeBirthdayTreats.com

It lists all kinds of restaurants and businesses that give you a freebie on your birthday. You can get breakfast, entrees, burgers, subs, ice cream, desserts! I signed up for a free birthday entree at Houlihans, a free ice cream creation at Cold Stone Creamery, a $30 free meal at Benihanas, and a free custom built burger at Ruby Tuesday. When you sign up for the Ruby Tuesday deal, you immediately get a coupon for a buy one get one free entree, up to $10. Check it out.

A word to the wise, the site cautions you that when you sign up, you will be getting other offers from these places, so it's good to have a "junk" email account. I started a free Gmail account, and I just use it for freebie offers. Then they don't clog up my other email account.   Happy Birthday.

Plein Air Painting in the Keys

Two things I will be doing in June. One is that I am exhibiting 2 of my paintings at a Spring Fever - En Plein Air exhibit at Winter Garden City Hall starting at the opening reception on Friday, June 11 and ending August 31st. One of the paintings was done during the Spring Fever festival in Winter Garden where they invited artists to paint Plein Air. The other painting will be my Retro Citrus Tower.

The other thing I am trying to arrange is a Plein Air oil painting workshop on the Florida Keys. I am taking an Alexander Art Course for certification and the coordinator for the course will be presenting the workshop on June 14th from 9 to 4. It's a great way to begin my painting journey into the Alexander Art brushes, paints, mediums, etc. I'm trying to convince an artist friend of mine, Jane Zhao from Boca Raton, to go with me. Then, I won't have to drive all the way alone and I will be able to catch up with her.

Jane is the Bob Ross Certified instructor who teaches a 2 day workshop in Clermont once in a while, and we're talking about having her come back in the fall to teach another workshop. The students in the last workshop told me she was the best Bob Ross instructor they ever had, and one woman had been taking classes and painting for over 30 years.

Elin Pendleton Boot Camp

Forgot to mention to visit my website www.ButterflyKissesStudio.com for the Registration information or contact me at alckathyc@juno.com for details of Elin's workshop. Don't hesitate too long. This workshop fills up fast!

Elin Pendleton Boot Camp

Anyone want to learn to paint better using less colors? Elin Pendleton will be out here from CA in May teaching her famous Color Boot Camp. Elin teaches you how to paint different times of day, eg. morning mist, noonday sun, evening. I am sponsoring the workshop, which is a full 5 days at the VoilArt Studio in downtown Ocala, FL. There are some spots left, but hurry, as the class size is limited. Check out Elin's website to see her work and read her daily painting blogs. She is a fabulous instructor. You will learn a lot. www.elinart.com

Spring Fever in the Garden

On Saturday, April 10th, I will be painting outdoors at the Spring Fever in the Garden event in Winter Garden, FL. This is my first time 'plein air' painting, and I spent a whole day getting my lightweight, portable easel station together. I think it will be a wonderful learning experience for me. I have to paint landscapes or maybe streetscapes, and after the event, there will be an exhibit in Winter Garden of the artists work. There are only 10 - 12 artists doing the "Watch Art Happen" portion of this event. If you get a chance, come on down and visit me at the festival. There are lots of adult things to do, plenty of food, and kids stuff galore. Check out www.springfeveringarden.com

Award Winner

I painted a portrait of my great grandaughter, Serenity, and entered it in the South Lake Art League's Spring Art Show. I won a 3rd place ribbon! The judge loved the "attitude" of that little girl, and she also liked how I carried the purple of the background into her face. Now, you probably can't see any purple in her face, but, believe me, that reflected light is there.

I have studied with Valerie Stewart and her portrait painting methods for the past 5 years, and this year, I completed her certification course. I am now officially certified to teach portraits using the Valerie Stewart method. Thanks, Valerie, for getting me to this point in my career.
